What is My Identity?

Who am I? Where do I belong? What is my identity?

Century¬†Britain is a multi-cultural melting pot of nationalities, languages, customs and religions. On the surface it looks like we are all so different, but on a deeper level we are actually all the same! The Bible says: “There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”1 The Bible looks past my skin colour, my clothing style and my accent, right down into my heart and sees within me exactly the same kind of evil thoughts and sinful imaginations as everyone else. Compared to my neighbour I might think I can stand tall and proud; but compared to the holy God of heaven, I am as flat on the floor as everyone else. That means I have a problem. I’m not only not acceptable to God, but I deserve eternal judgment.

But here’s the good news. Though we are fatally flawed by the universal problem of personal sin, God has provided a universal solution! God so loved humanity that, 2,000 years ago, He gave His perfect Son Jesus Christ to come into the world and die for us sinners on the cross. His death was a ransom payment to set us free from the guilt and grip of sin. Three days later Jesus rose again from the dead! He is alive today and is able and willing to give eternal life to anyone who will turn from their sin and trust in Him alone for personal forgiveness and salvation. Have you ever received the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour? If not, why not trust in Him to save you today? What will your identity be then? You will be a child of God, by faith in Jesus Christ!
